The post-television Deep Space Nine saga continues with this original novel from New York Times bestselling author David R. George III! On the original Deep Space Nine, Captain Kira Nerys watches as the nearby wormhole opens and discharges a single, bladelike vessel. Attempts to contact its crew fail, and the ship is soon followed by another vessel of similar design. When an armada subsequently begins to emerge from the wormhole, it seems clear that DS9 is under attack. Kira orders her first officer, Commander Elias Vaughn, to board the U.S.S. Defiant and defend the station, and alerts Starfleet to send additional forces as her crew prepares DS9’s shields and weaponry for the onslaught to come. Meanwhile, on the lead ship, Iliana Ghemor considers launching an attack on DS9 and finally ending the life of Kira, the fountainhead of all the ills in her miserable life. Her vengeance demands more than mere death, though—it requires pain. Ghemor refocuses, choosing to follow her plan to mete out her revenge on the captain by first decimating the population of Bajor… ™, ®, & © 2015 CBS Studios, Inc. Spanning several decades, this diverse collection of poems ... ranges widely in tone and scope, from humorous poems for his daughter Caitlin to complex poems chronicling the removal of the Elwha River dams. Throughout, the poems are threaded together by McNulty s clear love of place, carefully observed over four decades working, living, exploring and defending the forests of his home in the shadow of the Olympic Mountains. Reading these meditative poems, we re reminded of the value of close attention and the power of the specific detail, and ... what it means to dwell deeply on our own home ground. --Holly J. Hughes

Chinese companies have managed to perform well in Malaysia, especially after the recession in the mid-1980s, due to a clear change in the Malay dominated government's attitude to Chinese capital. Despite the problems that prevail among UMNO politicians, the government has provided a stable economic environment and offers opportunities for domestic private investment, even for the Chinese. Given these circumstances, it does appear that Chinese capital in Malaysia has reasonable prospects for further growth in the immediate future. This study examines the dominant role of Chinese capital in the economy, providing in-depth empirical research on its mode of development and styles of operation. Covering the period from colonial times to the present day this study identifies key issues pertaining to Chinese business operations in Malaysia: ownership and control patterns, style of growth, relations with the state, politicians and other Chinese businessmen, and the manner of development of business abroad, whilst debunking the theory that large-scale Chinese capital is not very entrepreneurial in nature.

Alfred S. Regnery, the publisher of The American Spectator, has been a part of the American conservative movement since childhood, when his father founded The Henry Regnery Company, which subsequently became Regnery Publishing -- the preeminent conservative publishing house that, among other notable achievements, published William F. Buckley's first book, God and Man at Yale. Including many uniquely personal anecdotes and stories, Regnery himself now boldly chronicles the development of the conservative movement from 1945 to the present. The outpouring of grief at the funeral of Ronald Reagan in 2004 -- and the acknowledgment that Reagan has come to be considered one of the greatest presidents of the twentieth century -- is Regnery's opening for a fascinating insider story. Beginning at the start of the twentieth century, he shows how in the years prior to and just post World War II, expanding government power at home and the expanding Communist empire abroad inspired conservatives to band together to fight these threats. The founding of the National Review, the drive to nominate Barry Goldwater first as vice-president and later as president, the apparent defeat of the conservative movement at the hands of Lyndon Johnson, and the triumphant rise of Ronald Reagan from the ashes are all chronicled in vivid prose that shows a uniquely intimate knowledge of the key figures. Regnery shares his views on the opposition that formed in response to Earl Warren's Supreme Court rulings, the role of faith (both Roman Catholic and Evangelical) in the renewed vigor of conservatism, and the contributing role of American businessmen who attempted to oppose big government. Upstream ultimately gives perspective to how the most vibrant political and cultural force of our time has influenced American culture, politics, economics, foreign policy, and all institutions and sectors of American life.

In the third and final volume, the United States of America continues to slide into totalitarianism just as the newly minted republic from the breakaway state of Wyoming gets its beginnings. However, a despotic ruler emerges as the USA decays and changes In God We Trust to something more in her own likeness. The USA and its constitution become the United Socialist States of America - the USSA -- and it no longer wishes to sit idly by and permit Wyoming and other states to secede; rather, it saber-rattles its intent toward war. The battle lines are drawn, as conflict between the two neighbors is inevitable. The clash of diametric ideologies is at hand, and they ready their armies and navies for combat. In a land so long united by a common people and cause, the ultimate outcome is as explosive as it is traumatic.

He had the drive, he had the motivation, and he had the ability to persevere. What Patrick Michaels lacked, however, was the faith to pursue his dreams. The story begins in a Buffalo Hospital where he lies on a gurney after being frantically raced into the emergency room after a spleen rupture. While being transferred to the emergency room for the time-sensitive surgery to take place, Patrick mentally prepares himself for his certain demise. As thirty percent of his body's blood flow begins to seep into his stomach, he begins to hallucinate and flashback to a few final uplifting moments in his life. After somehow surviving this ordeal, where little chance of survival was expected, he begins the long road to recovery. As the recovery process continues, he encounters a severe alcohol dependency, as the effects of his surgery and recent passing of his beloved relatives are too much to bear. With his life is hanging in the balance, he finally makes the decision to pull himself from the depths of despair and depression, in order to save his soul and create a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Ascendance draws on real events of the authors past, both from the mental and physical perspective. Thru the law of attraction and success principles obtained, understood, and carefully executed from the best-selling nonfiction novels (The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, The Success Principles by Jack Canfield, and Money: Master the Game by Tony Robbins) Patrick regains his faith in life and in himself, while becoming a successful Finance Professional amidst the shark infested waters of Wall St. and Midtown Manhattan. In Ascendance, Michaels invites readers to join his roller coaster journey towards his "dream scenario" as he offers hope and inspires readers trying to reconnect with their passions and life purpose.
